The Inaugural SonAlt Recital is the closing event of the 2026 SonAlt Festival. Performances by Las Cuerdas de la Muerte, cellist Daniel Legarde, flutist Claudia Aizaga, and composer/performer Adrián Maldonado will bring music by living composers from around the world to Quito.
The highlight of the program will be the Ecuadorian premiere of the winners of the 2026 SonAlt Call for Scores: IS IT ME? by Cristina Lord (USA) and THE QINGHAI LAKE by Ziyuan Wang (China). These works were chosen from approximately 300 entries from 52 countries and will be performed by Las Cuerdas de la Muerte.
Additionally, the program will feature works by Adrián Maldonado, Sum Yee Lee, and Mateo Wojtczack. Adrián Maldonado will join Las Cuerdas de la Muerte in the performance of his work Sueños de Illapa - quinteto para pífano y ensamble. In this work, Maldonado will play pífano, a type of traditional Andean flute. Sum Yee Lee will present two electroacoustic works: Behind the Invisible Doors (fixed media), which uses sounds created from natural materials, and Convergence for flute and live electronics. Mateo Wojtczack's string quartet Wind Up, Simmer Down follows the life of a windup toy, offering a glimpse into his interest in turning the act of play into musical narratives .
